World Animal Day : Lakmé to Use PETA-Approved Logo to Tout Its Commitment Against Animal Testing

Just in time for World Animal Day (4 October), Lakmé – ranked the number one make-up brand in the country – is joining PETA US’ Global Beauty Without Bunnies program, which certifies cosmetics, personal care, and household goods companies and brands that don’t test on animals. Lakmé, which is owned by Hindustan Unilever, will now feature the program’s PETA-approved bunny logo on its packaging. “Not testing any of our products on animals is critical to our values at Lakmé and is in line with Unilever’s Positive Beauty vision,” says Sumati Matti, head of innovations at Lakmé. “PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies program is recognized worldwide for its high-quality standards and rigor, and we are proud to be a brand that is officially PETA-approved. With Lakmé’s range of high-performance and world-class cosmetics, skin-care products, and beauty salons, women can own their look while knowing that the beauty and safety from our products are from scientific alternatives to animal testing.” “Thanks to Lakmé’s compassion and conscientiousness, animals will be spared ugly tests for beauty products,” says PETA India Science Policy Advisor Dr. Ankita Pandey. “PETA India is delighted that Lakmé and other kind companies on the Global Beauty Without Bunnies list empower consumers to shop according to their values.” PETA India – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to experiment on” – notes that more than 5,400 companies around the world have banned all animal tests in favor of effective, modern, non-animal methods, thereby sparing animals painful and deadly tests in which substances are applied to their eyes and shaved skin, sprayed in their faces, or forced down their throats. Because of the vast physiological differences between humans and the other animals used in these tests, the results are often misleading. In India, following efforts by PETA India, testing cosmetics or their ingredients on animals was banned in 2014, as was the importation of animal-tested cosmetics. In 2020, the government released the Cosmetics Rules 2020, which include provisions to strengthen the ban on the importation of animal-tested cosmetics. Nevertheless, to ensure they are not supporting animal testing, PETA India advises consumers to purchase only from companies listed as not testing on animals by PETA US’ Global Beauty Without Bunnies program.

Shree Saini becomes first Indian to win Miss World America 2021

The first Indian-American to win the crown of Miss World America 2021, Shree Saini of Washington State, is among the most unique pageant winners to be crowned. An advocate for heart health, Saini has had a permanent pacemaker since she was 12 and overcame a major car accident that left her with burns all over her face. But she rarely if ever lets any of that hold her back or define her.

Diana Hayden crowned Shree Saini at the event, which was held at Miss World America headquarters in Los Angeles. She is also the first Indian-origin contestant to represent America on a global stage.

Right after the crowning moment was over, Shree Saini said in her statement, “I am happy and quite nervous. I can’t express my feelings (in words). All the credit goes to my parents, especially my mother because of whose support I am here. Thank you Miss World America for this honor.”

The official Instagram handle of Miss World America shared the news with a caption that read as, “Shree, who is currently Miss World America Washington, also holds the prestigious position of ‘MWA National Beauty with a Purpose Ambassador’, a position she earned by working tirelessly to help those less fortunate and in need. Among her many accomplishments, her work has been recognized by UNICEF, Doctors without Borders, Susan G Komen, and many others.

Their latest single- Main Bhi Barbad, sees them as the two leads of a mafia gang, all stylishly clad and looking every bit dangerous. Both sport distinct looks through the video, something audiences have rarely seen earlier. The teaser images of their looks released a few days back had already got the fans and netizens excited about the release. Sung with some great emotional fervor by the brilliant Yasser Desai, the track has been composed by Gourav Dasgupta (who recently belted out the chartbuster dance track Dream Mein Entry) while the lyrics have been worded by acclaimed lyricist Kunwar Juneja. Hina Khan, sporting a look in absolute contrast to the looks she has done in the past, said of the song, “I fell in love with the main hook line of the song – Main Bhi Barbaad Tu Bhi Barbaad Hain. It’s so full of pain and pathos, and I couldn’t let go of the haunting melody from my mind. Jyoti Saxena pays her tribute to the father of the nation also known as “Bapu”. Jyoti says ‘I feel very proud to be the citizen of the country where Gandhiji was born. Learning about his ideals and philosophy really inspires me. His thought of “Simple living and high thinking” appears simple but practicing it in daily life is difficult. He taught us to remain truthful, tolerant, non-violent, and respectful of others even in difficult circumstances. His ideas of shutting down the violence with Ahimsa gives us the strength in fighting our own battles. The secular ideologies of Gandhiji are ingrained in the Indian society. That is why so many people of diverse religions have coexisted in India. His philosophy on equality, respect for women, non-violence, cleanliness, and sustainability are more relevant today than ever before.

We continue to learn from Gandhiji. His political contributions gave us Independence from the British, but his ideologies continue to enlighten India and World and will continue to do so forever.
